Writer: Ahn Kwon Tae

Cast:
Won Bin ... Jong Hyun
Shin Hak Kyun ... Seong Hyun

'My Brother' is a story about two very different brothers living with their loanshark mother (Kim Hae-suk). Won Bin plays Jong-hyeon , the younger brother, who is good at fighting and always looking for trouble. On the contrary his older brother, Seong-hyeon (Shin Ha-gyun) is tender and good at studying. Since they were small, they have received different treatment from their mother. The mother always compliments and treats Seong-hyeon with more love, which makes Jong-hyeon dislikes his own brother. On the other hand Seong-hyeon is a little bit jealous over Jong-hyeon because of his handsome face. The conflict grows deeper when both of them fall for Mi-ryeong (Lee Bo-yeong), the most beautiful girl in the neighbourhood. Will they continue carry on living hating each other? or will they find out the meaning of being brother?

The build up of the story is slow and steady. Thanks to the superb acting of both Won Bin and Shin Ha-gyun, the viewer is taken on a journey of sentimental scnenes, that will shed tears. Furthermore, this movie is completed with valuable gems in almost every aspect.
Final words: this is a very good movie and I'm sure that everyone will learn something new about life from this movie.

Release Date: 2003

With "Oldboy," the middle segment of Park Chan-wook's elegiac "Vengeance Trilogy," much has been made about the film's graphic violence. This is been especially prevalent among Western movie critics, who seemto have no such complaints about far more brutal (and brainless films.) But I digress. "Oldboy's" power comes not from its physical violence. (By the way, most of its bloodiest scenes occur off-screen, and it's a credit to Park's deft filmmaking that he makes viewers believe they've witnessed something not shown on camera.) Adapted from a Japanese manga, "Oldboy" delves into the bitter core of emotional violence. No amount of blood compares to the film's devastating denouement, or Woo-jin's (Yu Ji-tae) cynical and clinical dissection of the merits of revenge coming to sad fruition near the film's conclusion. It accomplishes the task inherent in all great films – more than just entertainment, it cajoles the audience to ask “What would I do in a similar situation?” And, Park (along with co-writers Hwang Jo-yoon and Im Joon-hyung) reinvigorates the “revenge drama,” a common cinematic theme, by imbuing his trilogy with consequence. Revenge is not gleeful; it’s a spiritually painful for those seeking it as well as its intended target.

The casting is spot-on. The great Choi Min-sik has never been better, and kudos to Yu Ji-tae for taking what could have been a snarling one-note villian, and evoking pathos, even an odd poignancy. Equal praise to Gang Hye-jung and the always reliable Oh Dal-su.
Also, mention must be made of Jo Young-wook's evocative score, especially the baroque "Cries and Whispers," which is featured in so many incarnations (even a a ringtone), it almost becomes another character in the film. More than a classic of contemporary Korean cinema, it's one of the great films, in any nation, of the past quarter-century. Not a day goes by when I don't find myself considering its many provocative themes, and it has forever altered my standards for the tenets of a masterpiece. It's virtuoso filmmaking, yet Park never sacrifices substance for style and spectacle. "Oldboy" is a film to be studied, admired, and revered for decades to come.

3 Iron

3 Iron (Bin-jip)

Release Date : 2005
Director : Kim Ki Duk
Writer : Kim Ki Duk

Cast:

Jae Hee ... Tae Suk
Lee Seong Yun ... Sun Hwa

Reviewed By : Tomea

Poetic is what I would call this film. It has such poignant quality to it. It reminds me of the dream like state of Last Life in the Universe, yet it retains its own uniqueness. Dialogue was not essential between the two characters. It would have lessen the tension in the film if it did. Director Kim Ki Duk understood perfectly that what was said was beautifully captured by the lens, and in doing so he let the audience ease into the film efortlessly.

Tae-suk (Jae Hee) is a jobless college-educated mute (by choice) vagrant that breaks into vacationing people's homes and treats himself to the bear essentials - food, a place to sleep and shower - and in return he fixes broken appliances, cleans the house and does their laundry. He also takes pictures of himself along portraits of the owner's home. It's as if he wants to ingrain himself temporarily in their lives. He does not stay long and moves around quite often. He meets Sun Hwa (Lee Seong Yun), a silent, meek and physically abused housewife, in one of his break-ins. And this meeting is the catalyst to an unlikely and emotionally wrenching love story.

I've been a fan of Jae Hee since Delightful Girl Cheunyang[??]. He isn't overtly handsome like other korean actors and he isn't the most charismatic, yet he has the most intense expression when he keeps still and let his eyes talk. It's very obvious in this film that director Kim Ki Duk made use of Jae Hee's expressive facial expressions, particularly his eyes. Lee Seong Yun was superb in this film. She creates an effortless and almost serene quality in the film. She weaves a magical spell from the beginning with her quite rage towards her husband to her triumphant and vocal statement of love to Tae-suk.

Director Kim Ki Duk abandons his usual style of sweeping paronamic shots and themes of lust and violence. This film was tame compared to his previous films, yet this was the most stunning out of all of them. I've seen this film 3 times and each time I find something new to marvel at. I already miss the characters, and I would probably watch the film again after writing this. I akin this film to Wong Kar Wai's wonderful masterpieces: In the Mood for Love and 2046. I had a similar reaction. I could not forget about the characters and watched the film over and over again and fell in love every damn time.

3-iron is the quietest movie I ever watched. It is a story about this homeless – Tae-suk –. His daily routine involves temporarily staying in vacant houses and apartments. He never steals nor damages his unknowing hosts’ homes; rather, he is like a kind ghost, sleeping in other people’s beds, eating a little food out of strangers’ fridges and repaying their unintended hospitality by doing the laundry or making small repairs.

Sun-hwa was once a beautiful model, but she has withered living with her abusive husband, who keeps he imprisoned in their affluent, expensively decorated house. Tae-suk and Sun-hwa are bound by fate to cross their paths. They finally meet when Tae-suk breaks into Sun-hwa’s house and they instantly recognize the similarity of their souls, finding themselves unable to separate.

The title, 3-iron refers to the golf club that is least used in the sport, but plays a leading role in a stor about the transcendental power of romance. This movie has win the Venice Film Festival – Special Director’s Award – and Valladolid Int’l Film Festival – Best Film, KIM Ki-duk –.

And this movie is worth watching when you want to see how LEE Seung-yeon and JAE Hee act ‘quietly’ because it is very difficult and very seldom to see this kind of movie in any countries. Thumbs Up!!

“My Girl and I” is by far my favorite Korean movie. It has greatly elevated my appreciation for Korean films and my interest in them. I was first drawn to this movie because of the Song Hye Kyo, one of my most beloved actresses. It was not long before I was totally captivated by the story. It begins in present day Korea when Su Ho returned to his hometown for a ten year high school reunion. Depicting his undying love for a girlfriend long dead. The film moves back ten years ago, showing how the love story between how Su Ho, an ordinary guy and the school belle unfolds. One of the nice thing here is it is about the innocent and pure relationship between teenagers, something I can easily relate to. Like all Korean love stories, there is a twist, putting their love to the biggest test. Through the struggle, its shows the extraordinary maturity of these two in dealing with the dilemma, Su Eun, played by Song Hye Kyo, demonstrated great understanding and thoughtfulness.

In a way, the film can be said to end in a good way, Su Eun found the love of her life and Su Ho managed to mend his broken heart and bravely face the painful past. People may say that such a story line isn’t anything new and the story may be quite stale in a way, but to me the attraction of the film is the detailed expression of true love and feelings, something we simply can’t get from Hollywood movies despite their hefty budget and interesting stories. The music is another merit, successfully enhancing the atmosphere in the film. In fact it is with the help of the music that moved many viewers to tears. On the whole, this is a great movie and it did not achieve the level of fame it deserves but I believe everyone will learn something new about life from the movie, one that is suitable for all ages as it deals with the fundamentals of human nature.

This movie really appealed to the romance lover in me. It is two love stories in one coupled with beautiful, melodic music and scenic views that are simply breath taking. The tale begins with Ji-Hyae, who likes the same guy as her friend Soo Kyung. While cleaning, Ji-Hyae finds some old letters belonging to mother Jo Hee detailing the romance between her and her first love, Joon-Hee. Many years prior, Jo Hee had met Joon-Hee and felt instantly drawn to him but she is hindered by a forced betrothal to Joon-Hee's best friend Tae Soo.

The story switches back and forth between Ji-Hyae and the love triangle that is going on with her and her best friend being in love with Sang Min, and flashbacks of her mother’s love triangle. The viewer is taken on a journey that will leave you alternately wiping tears and rejoicing as the two triangles move towards a resolution. In order not to spoil the ending, I will just say that one love story has a typical happy ending while the other d oes not. The one with the typical happy ending though is full of surprise revelations that makes it unique and refreshing.

When I first started watching this movie, I thought it would be another cliche (but entertaining) hack and slash movie. I had no idea it would be so hilarious too. Sin Eun-kyeong does an excellent job as a brutal gang leader. Her stoic nature lends additonal humor to solemn scenes. Her husband, Park Sang-myeon, plays the part of a blubbering do-gooder who doesn't know the exact details of his wife's job. Seeing the progression of both characters is enjoyable to watch. If you're looking for an action movie with a splash of humor, "My Wife is a Gangster" is the way to go.

A City of Violence is blend of a gritty gangster drama and an action flick. The film starts out with Doo-hong Jung as police dective Tae-Su in Seoul going back to his home town for his friend's funeral. On the surface it seems like he was killed by a few low-level thugs but as the film unravels the story turns out to be a bit more complex. The "surprise twist" is hinted at throughout the movie and is foreseeable a mile away. In essence you have two good guys battle with lots of minons and a few elite bad guys before the end as in many other movies like this.

It was a very watchable movie, it wasn't a life changing cinematic experience or anything but a good way to kill some time. Most of all I really enjoyed the action sequences where one or two good guys battle it out with swarms of bad guys. In a way it reminded me of Kill Bill, slightly cartoonish but none the less exicting fighting scenes. I liked the way how the movie flashed back at times to show the progression of the relationship of the four main characters with each other as the years went by.

It really didn't have a memorable soundtrack or any other thing that really sticks with you after the movie besides the action scenes. Although Doo-hong played an excellent bad ass cop, he just has the facial characteristics of a good anti-hero. I definitely recommend it, if anything just watch it for the action scenes.

It is a romantic comedy film. Though the story line is so ordinary coz the lead man is trying to take advantage of the lead girl still the characters portrayed a real good acting. I might say that after watching different korean series KJW and HJW was a superb couple. What I do like about this movie is that it portays reality on how a good looking man can lure all the lady by just carrying a nice head face LOLZ though except for HJW on whom at that time she feels that KJW oppa was nothing but a heartless human being but in the end she is also under the spell of KJW.

I like all the settings of the scenario of this movie they made it perfect. I can still remember the adventure when HJW will take a bungee jumping experience that was a nice place. Most of all I like on how the story ends. It was so romantic, the lights, the proposal and the kiss (of course) it is so perfect.Aigoo I heart this movie. :)

How many times have you heard the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast? Well, say hello to a refreshing take on the age old tale. The Beast and the Beauty was a one of a kind movie that made you cry, laugh, and even cry AND laugh at the same time. Shin Min-Ah plays the blind and beautiful girlfriend of a gorgeous man, or so she thinks. Ryu Seung-Bum plays the part of the "gorgeous" boyfriend. He lies to her and describes himself to be a handsome and very successful business man, but in reality, he is a voice actor for cartoons. But WAIT. Before you make assumptions about him, he is a low self-esteemed man who is truly in love with this girl but can't bear to tell him about what he thinks is a disfigured face. One day, his fairy tale suddenly comes to a screeching halt with the news of an eye donor for Shin Min-Ah. Chaos ensues for Ryu Seung-Bum's character as he constantly runs away from truly showing his girlfriend who he really is. Things get all the more complicated, when Ryu's old high school friend steps into the picture.

Not only is this movie a quirky love story, but also a family movie with morals. I usually tend to stray from movies with the same old plot, but the Beast and the Beauty was such a different outtake on a familiar storyline. I couldn't resist. My whole family enjoyed it as did I the first, second, and third time I watched it. The hilarious scenes are bound to make you laugh. This is a sweet love story that will be around for decades.

She liked him at first, then she was crazy about him and started to stalk him, following from place to place, did all everything that she could so he could just notice her.
Slowly all of the hard work that Jang NaRa had put in started to affect him and made him fall in love with her too. However, there was a bit of misunderstanding between the two that cause them to break up and lead to the interesting ending ....

The concept of the film is a breath of fresh air and it is very different from the ordinary “chick flick” movies that usually contains a love triangle. In the movie, time itself is the enemy. Not only is the concept of the movie brilliant but the house as well. The lead actors flatter each others’ acting abilities, thus creating a good chemistry. Han Sung-hyun (Jung-Jae Lee from Over the Rainbow) is a man who finds a letter in a mail box sent by Kim Eun-ju (Ji-hyun Jun from My Sassy Girl) who happened to be two years ahead of him. The story unfolds during their exchange of letters which helps the audience understand the story better. Both find solace from each others letters and begin to fall in love without realizing it.

It is interesting on how the lead actress warns the lead actor about things that are bound to occur such as a big storm and the paw prints of a dog they both live with in the same time. However, the question to ponder is “How will they meet?” A mystery that keeps the viewers hooked until the end. Also, the OST of the story, Must Say Goodbye, compliments the mood of the movie splendidly; may it be played soft in the piano, sang by the artist or played in a joyful rhythm. Il Mare is a story that proves that no matter where you are love will definitely find its way. A film that captivates the audiences’ hearts and it is definitely worth watching.

What if love could go beyond the restriction of time? After a couple of scenes it is established that the mailbox of the house has some very special powers. It can send anything to the past two years or to the future two years. The two characters soon become realized of this strange phenomenon and bgein to communicate through the magical mailbox. As the story progresses the two characters begin to feel an attraction for one another but some problems arise that could mean the end of their love forever.

Il Mare is a wonderful movie full of the concept the love can transcend time and boundaries. This movie was recently made into an american movie called the "lake house" starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. If you like romantic fantasies this is definitely the movie for you! Two Thumbs up!

This movie is my favourite JeonJiHyun movie. While others prefer My Sassy Girl, I prefer Il Mare. The plot of this film is a rather unusual one--the two main characters are living two years apart.

LeeJungJae plays SungHyun who moves into a house standing above the lake. In his mailbox he finds a letter from EunJoo (JJH) telling him she is the former tenant and pleads with him to forward any mail to her new address. The date on her letter is 1999, but to him, it's 1997.

He responds to her, and doesn't take her seriously but she begins to predict what will happen because she lived through it 2 years ago....

Slowly they fall in love through the mail box and you'll have to watch it to find out if they end up together in the end!

I was confused about the ending but I've watched it soo many times I understand it perfectly now. The way this movie was shot is beautiful and the main attraction of the movie - the house - is gorgeous.

Guns ands Talks is all about witty and organized humour. It doesn’t necessarily make you roll on the floor laughing hard but it makes you giggle mad. The film is about four men who make a living as assassins. Yes, you hire them and they do the killing for you. It does sound grotesque but once the movie starts, you get lost in the river of comedy and forget the moral issues of the situation. However, the film doesn’t fail to question the morality of their job, even having one member reluctant in finishing his assignment.

The cast makes the casting director a genius. They have excellent chemistry, particularly the four leads. Shin Hyun-Joon as Sang-yeon is the very precise and goal-oriented leader of the group. Jeong Jae-young is the mysterious sniper who goes to confession after a job done. Shin Ha-Kyun shows his acting versatility as Jung-woo, the antsy bomb specialist. Lastly, Won Bin plays Ha-yeon, the youngest of the four who possess such melodramatic personality and the eagerness to finally shoot a gun. It is hard to choose which actor played their character best because everyone performed to the best of their capabilities. However, Won Bin and Shin Ha-Kyun dominate the screen with their presence. Whenever those two actors are on screen, expect something humorous to come out. Consequently, I feel that Jeong Jae-young’s character has been given the least screen time. His character is mysterious but the audience should have been given the privilege to learn more about him. This is one of my complaints about the film.

The movie is not perfect. Its flaws generate from the ending itself. Some questions have been left unanswered, leaving the audience to speculate. This doesn’t mean it has a bad ending. In fact, the movie maintained its humour until the credits start rolling. There is still that satisfying feeling. As for the music, no song stood out for me, but it’s not a bad thing. It simply blended well with the scenes but it is not something worth including in your daily playlist.

Overall, the movie is funny, light-hearted, and easy to watch. If you are bored or simply in need of a few laughter without dealing with heavy plot, then this is the movie for you.

To start off I think the movie ING was a very touching movie about a girl whose best friend is her mother. She is very shy and tends to keep to herself while wearing one glove on her hand. It is still a mystery why she wears it but in the end you will realize why the director linked this to the movie. well neways she meets a boy who lives in her apartment complex. He's a college student who's majoring in photography. By chance he sees her smoking outside on her room balcony. He asks her from the bottom floor if he can borrow her lighter. She throws it to him but he doesn't give it back.

This starts there cute friendship that blossoms into love. The love of mother and daughter really grasps the attention of the audience as both mother and daughter share a unique relationship where teh daughter can call her mother by her first name. The only thing lacking in this movie was more romantic events between Kim Rae Won and Im Soo -Jeong. I thought that their relationship was more older and brother and younger sister. All in all the movie wound two different storyline together. One of a mother and daughter and one of a tragedy bound too occur between lovers...

The Way Home

Release Date : 2002
Director: Lee Jeon Hyang

Kim Eul Boon ... Grandmother

Reviewed By: Boondockerz

This unexpected box office success by Lee Jeong-hyang has catapulted her to become one of S. Korea's most acclaimed female directors. This picture opened with little fanfare or commercialism, but it steadily gained popularity to eventually land at #1 in the 2002 box office, and became one of the year's best films.

The story begins with a young, struggling mother who leaves her 7-year old son to stay in the rural, mountainside home of his 78-year old deaf/mute grandmother. The boy is to stay with the wizened, old woman while his mother looks for work. Because his mother ran away from home at a young age, the boy and old woman are strangers meeting for the first time. Initially, the boy is furious at his situation and reacts like a spoiled little brat accustomed to the creature comforts of big-city Seoul. Refusing to accept life in his rustic surroundings, he throws tantrums, makes unreasonable demands and generally acts like an insufferable little twit. The grandmother reacts with the patience and sacrifice that only a grandparent can give.

Eventually, the boy slowly comes around and the beginnings of a strong, heartwarming bond is made.

One aspect of this film is the vast contrast between big-city life under post-modern Seoul and the much more simpler one of traditional Korean culture. This is empahisized by the slow-paced, natural cadence of the film, which plays out like we are looking at a typical slice of real country life, instead of an an actual movie.

However, the real strength of the story lies in the relationship between the boy and the old woman. They give superb, convincing performances in a film without much dialogue. Instead, much of the emotions and storyline is conveyed non-verbally through subtle nuances of face and movement.

The grandmother is the star of this movie to me. She plays the role of a deaf and mute person, yet manages to convey so much. Kim Ul-boon, who plays her, is an amateur who was has never even seen a movie in her life! She was discovered walking down a country road by the director, and has since become semi-famous. Perhaps this is the reason her acting comes across as so natural in the film.

This movie can definitely be a tear-jerker, but the emotion is not forced, as is often utilized in many popular Korean dramas. No one gets sick or dies in a horrific traffic accident. There are no endless scenes of tearful goodbyes on a hospital bed. Instead, it relies on a deeply moving storyline and the beautiful bond between the two protagonists. It makes the viewer reflect on how one can take things for granted, and the bittersweet regret of not appreciating parental love in our youth.

Non-Asian viewers may miss some of the subtler aspects of traditional Confucian/Korean values and ideas of sacrifice, but the ultimate lesson is not lost. This heartwrenching parable of family values demonstrates how the unconditional love of a grandmother transcends all cultural barriers. It conjures up images of warm apple pie and the nostalgia of old country life. In fact, this picture can be seen as an homage to all grandmothers everywhere and I highly recommend it to any fans of Korean cinema... or any cinema for that matter.

Arahan tells the story of Sang-Hwan, an ineffective cop who no one can seem to take seriously. After being beaten by the local mob and a disastrous attempt to ticket the local congressman's chauffeur for running a red light, Sang spies a purse-snatcher and promptly gives chase. Unknown to him the purse-snatcher is also being pursued by Eui-Jin, a Tao master in training. When Sang is struck by her errant palm blast he finds himself in the care of Taoist Masters.

When the Masters guarding the key to enlightenment identify a strong ch'i in him they try to persuade him to train with them so that he could save mankind from evil forces.

Harbouring a crush on Eui-Jin and a strong desire to kick some ass, Sang begins training under the Master but an ancient bad guy has come out of a long, long hibernation to seek the key from the Master so that he could control the world.

In terms of action Arahan manages to pull out some very funny and surprising scenes, and many action-packed sequences, especially the fighting scenes involving sword and fist to add to the variety. The fights are very well choreographed with a right balance of action and comedy, all the ingredients of a decent Kung Fu flick.

Reviewed By : Jun

Net Weight: Light

Ingredients: Kungfu action, beautiful female actress, lame humour

Arahan is a typical action-comedy that doesn’t stray much from its stereotype of punches, kicks and laughs (well, not really laughs. More like smiles, as in those smiles you show after hearing jokes which are funny, but in a stupid way- you get my point). The plot is predictable, to the point that it slowly becomes dry, and the only thing that makes this film endurable was the beautiful Yoon So Yi (whose pretty face you get to admire from many different angles throughout the film).

The main character is a loser-cop who tries his best to be cute in a geeky way, but doesn’t quite cut it out as well, cute (unless you follow the popular definition of cute being equal to ‘ugly but adorable’) Instead, he becomes quite annoying most of the time due to the many ugly facial expressions that he pulls, and the only time he redeems himself is during the fight scenes littered throughout the show, which are thankfully, plenty. If movies are categorised into having the beginning, the middle and the end, then this film is suffering from what I call an elongated middle.

I found myself dreading whenever I see ‘a next episode’ link appear on the right-hand side of my screen (for those of you who’ve actually watched the show via crunchyroll, you would know what I’m talking about). The stretched-out storytelling coupled with corny and ill-conceived names like ‘Seven Masters’ and ‘Palm Blast’ makes this film something to watch and forget. The only plus points are the feel-good ending (that has become the hallmark of almost all lighthearted Korean films) and like mentioned before, the beautiful female lead.

But then a tragic accident happened one day. Jae-Young got herself hurt while attempting to escape from the police. Still shocked, Yeo-Jin came to rescue her friend who still manages to speak with her until they got into the hospital.

After what happened to Jae-Young, Yeo-Jin felt guilty and did the most unthinkable thing. Worst is that her dad found out about it.

Because of the seriousness of this matter, Yeo-Jin's dad seem not to take it so well. Yeo-Jin's dad was so heartbroken knowing what's happening to his daughter.

Teens upto now are still getting involve in this kind of business. Dirty as it is, they still don't get the fact that this may lead them to trouble and may even cost their lives. Due to the overwhelming cash over-flow in this kind of business, i think maybe that's one of the reasons why teens are so hooked up in this kind of activity. If only everybody will cooperate and fight this society's menace...every teen in this country would be finally SAFE from teenage prostitution...

I've just finished watching this movie with my sister and we both agreed that it's a very nice movie.(Two thumbs up for Shim Jin Ho and to Seo Jeong )

This movie deals alot about morality and stuffs. I Didn't know that it's against the law to have an affai with a much younger guy...I thought AGE doesn't matter?Guess not, coz AGE does really matter in here.

But this couple seem to be so much in love with each other that they didn't even bother being seen together even after to what just happened to them. It's like as if they're the only people in this world. That nothing's more important to them than each other.

Although there's a 13 years age gap, for Hyun, nothing compares to the kind of happiness he feels whenever he's with Kim. Maybe because Kim was his FIRST LOVE and all...

It even made me feel envious with the two for Hyun does really like/love Kim so much and that makes her LUCKY enough. I'll never forget the scene he made while drinking with Kim. He even pretended to be drunk (he almost got us there!)... too bad, granny couldn't get hold of his secret for long. Funny guy...but i find it very sweet!

Wherever Kim goesor Kim says, Hyun's there and whole heartedly obeys. He's like head over heels in love with Kim.

Soon, he's almost over being a minor and they planned on having a small and simple kind of celebration where all the closest people to them were invited including Kim's ex-husband. Exchange of thoughts and inner feelings were expressed here. At first it made me feel kinda dizzy not knowing of which way the story's gonna go. But they seem to connect with each other pretty well so, i'm fine with it.

As the clock strikes 12, Hyun's no longer a minor. So now he can choose where he wants to stay and who he wants to stay with--> KIM (Yay!)

For me, this movie dealt not only about SEX but also, it emphasized the kind of relationship that rarely happens in real life. That no matter what, how hard life may seem to be, there's no giving up.

I liked the movie so much that it made my perspective in life and relationship a little bit different from now.

One could acknowledge the elemental basis of all Korean romance/comedy flicks are the tough guy and shy girl combination (which is interchangeable), a triangle love relationship and perhaps a touch of incest. However what makes Romance of their Own different?

It does not lie in the adaptation from internet story to silver screen (My Sassy Girl) or the tear-jerking normative characteristics of a Kmovie but it’s portrayal of the characters. Within movies, audiences search for characteristics that they are familiar with, that they can understand. Han Kyung (Lee Cheong Ah) arrives a Seoul to live with her mother and he step family, frustrated and heart broken that her childhood first love is now going out with her other childhood best friend. She meets Hae-won (Jo Han Seon) a tough guy that falls for her. It’s refreshing to see Han Kyung (Lee Cheong Ah) resemble a normal Korean girl, one the audience can relate too. While Hae Won (Jo Han Seon) reflects the modern day “Prince Charming” minus the aura of coolness, stubbornness, and ignorant distinctiveness. Making girls swoon once again is Tae-song (Kang Dong Won), adding more complication to the plot and the movie falls directly under the category of audience knowing the answer
s before the protagonist does. The Love triangle between Tae Song, Hae-won and Han Kyung would have classified it as a teenage romance flick, but the complications between the characters gives the story more depth.

Having read the internet novel, the adaptation was sufficient and true to the author’s work. My only criticism in is adaptation should have been to drama rather then movie. Little details that made the book such a success in Asia would have done the same put in a visual drama.

A bittersweet romance to warm the hearts and tears of all that watch it. The screenplay's very witty and highly entertaining. A much better movie then “He was cool” by the same author. The characters well-casted, with some simple but sweet moments that is refined by the cinematography (fight scene in the beginning) gives an added sense into the characters.
This movie is really for the “hopeless romantics” but has a bit for everyone, credible fight scenes, comedy and romance.

It seems as if the whole production doesn't even spent so much time and effort in making this film.

They're not particularly good actors. I didn't even hear the girl talk. She screamed, yes, but was that it? Nothing else? Geezz... =p

I don't mind watching a film even if it takes forever but a movie like this is something I wouldn't recommend to my friends to watch for. It's not worth it.

Suh Boeun, a 15 year old 1st yr. highschool girl has a childhood friend named Park Sangmin, a 24 yr old playboy who enjoyed his primetime of being a single man.

The plot starts when Boeun meets Sangmin at the airport (for Sangmin has just finished his military work at somewhere part in the West). The two directly went to Boeun's grandfather (in his deathbed). After setting the atmosphere, Bouen's grandfather told a story of him together with Sangmin's deceased grandfather. Sangmin's grandfather was a comrade of Boeun's grandfather in the world war 2. the 2 had made a pact that their children will marry but it couldn't happen since they both have sons. In order to die peacefully, Boeun's grandfather decided to pass this pact down to the next generation (Sangmin and Bouen should be married!) Apparently, the two declined the wish of the grandfather. This old smart grandfather taught of a scene and pretended to be dying. Bouen, fearing that her grandfather will really die, granted & accepted the marriage and instantly, SANGMIN and BOUEN became HUSBAND and WIFE! The 2 separated their house from their parents. it seems that this folks were just playing. =) well they treated each other just like a younger sister and an older brother living together.

Being a highschool student, Boeun decided to keep this a secret from everyone except from her closest friend. Same with Bouen, Sangmin just spread the news to his closest colleagues. While enjoying the teenage life, Boeun has a relationship with Jung-woo, a baseball star player. Accidentally, Sangmin was assigned to teach Art subject in Bouen's school for his internship. Sangmin, appealing and looking cute-guy attracted Bouen's classmates and as well as a senior spinster teacher. (this helped the film to be really FUNNY!) The 2 kept to everybody and pretended not to know each other at school to prevent gossips and issues. Miss Kim, the spinster followed Sangmin and she also went to the couple's place. Upon observing Sangmin's house, she saw another person hiding at the curtain (its Boeun!). Bouen rushed and hides herself using the blanket and runs outside the house. Sangmin lied & pretended to have a weird sister. (FUNNY!)

Upon finishing Sangmin's internship, the relationship was revealed to Miss Kim when the 2 had troubled in their way home. The 2 got in to the Police's station and the principal together with the spinster went to fix the knot. The next day, Miss Kim assigned the class for school decoration. She purposely made Bouen's task to be the hardest as she wishes that Bouen will paint the whole backround of the stage ALONE. Sangmin can't resist in front of the class to avoid gossips. Poor Bouen. She will have to suffer and paint the bacground, herself. But, secretly, Sangmin pretended that he was not worried to his little bride. He edits the background at night and got home late. He pretended to be busy and didn't utter some words to Boeun. Bouen, unaware of what is really happening still sees her boyfriend secretly. While having a date on the same day of the family reunion, her brother's friend accidentally recorded Bouen's date at the video rental station. At home, the video was played and everyone saw what Boeun was doing. Boeun, seeing what had happened run outside the house, crying. Sangmin followed her. He tried to comfort Boeun even tough he should be the one to be comforted to (because he was broken-hearted). Bouen felt guilty of what happened and she was still blinded by the real situation. Upon returning home, her mother comforted Bouen and told her many things that happened when she and Sangmin was still kids. Sangmin really showed concern and comfort to the clumsy Bouen ever since and Boeun always enjoyed and treasured Sangmin's company. after that night, She went back to their apartment while Sangmin was very busy painting and finishing the background of the stage with his friends. Bouen entered to Sangmin's room and she found Sangmin's photo album. She found all their chilhood pictures together. Also, she found her letter to Sangmin(she gaved the letter during his military service), placed on Sangmin's organizer. After realizing this things, she got a call from Ji-soo, Sangmin's female friend and she told that Sangmin and his friends were busy painting the school's background stage. This was the most touching part of the story. Bouen run towards the school to look for Sangmin but the 2 didn't meet that night. the next day, it was the day of the program and Sangmin's last day in the school. Bouen talked to her boyfriend and she break their relationship, realizing that she loved Sangmin. In the program proper, Sangmin was given the opportunity to speak in the program. While thanking the faculty staff and the students, another student (Bouen's rival over her ex-boyfriend) revealed Sangmin's true identity, that he was married to a 15yr old highschool girl, BOUEN. Sangmin, afraid that her bride will be hurt, testify & said that she was just granting her grandfather's wish & marrying him was a NO to Bouen & Bouen loved another man. But Bouen stands at the front of everyone and told Sangmin that she was not aware of her TRUE fealings & she said that she was in loved to Sangmin!Upon hearing it, Sangmin kissed Bouen on her forehead & the 2 reconciled!=)

I thought that this movie was one of the cutest movies I have ever seen. Moon Geun Young plays the excellent role of a 16 year old freshman in high school who has to get married to a family friend (Kim Rae Won) to fulfill a family promise. Her grandfather is especially cute and comical in this movie as he tries everything in his power to have the reluctant Moon Geun Young and Kim Rae Won wed. It was funny to watch the older generation so involved in trying to have their children wed and the scenes that follow the parents' reactions are hilarious to watch. Both main characters later agree to marry after Moon's grandfather's scheme works and they begin their life together with an unusual honeymoon. Both characters are able to play out their roles in excellent fashion as they go from a brother sister relationship between family friends to husband and wife.

Kim Rae Won plays the role of a caring older brother figure, who cares for Moon Geun Young greatly despite his "naughty" ways. Although Moon is caught up in a relationship with her high school senior, she later realizes that she loves her husband. A touching scene is shown when Kim helps his little bride with a school project that seems impossible to finish, showing his loving nature towards her. This movie is a light film that is great to watch for the simple viewing pleasure. (It has a very cute ending as well). The cast collaborates well with each other and helps bring out the movie to its fullest potential. I recommend this movie for those that love romantic comedies.

Kim Rae won who plays "Sang Min" is also in some other dramas such as LOVE STORY IN HARVARD, ATTIC CAT, and MY LOVE PATTZI. I think he is a great actor that can fit well into any character on the screen. Moon Geun Young is playing "Bo Eun." She is my favorite young teen actress because she is so lovable!

I love the way she talks and acts. I believe this movie can take to any audience. Maybe starting from the age of 13 because it does have some funny scenes that may not be appropriate for little children. The main plot is that Bo Eun and Sang Min have to get married due to the grandfather's last wish. At first they both have a tough time because of the age gap but as the story moves along, they find out that maybe their marriage was not forced from the beginning.
The movie itself was great to my eyes. I loved how the scenes were portrayed because it gave a very fun and lighterhearted mood. I think the director, Kim Ho Jun did a great job.
Overall, this movie would go under the genre of a romantic comedy but it is unique and cute and I give it 2 hands up!!!

Starring Kim Rae-Won and Moon Geun-Young, My Little Bride is a remake of a Hong Kong film called My Wife is 18. So few Korean romantic comedies (besides My Sassy Girl) portray the hero as a overtly gentle, patient, even-tempered man who does not hide these qualities under a layer of chauvinism. The contrast between the hero's character in this film and those characters in movies such as My Tutor Friend or My Boyfriend is Type B is truly refreshing to see, from a female perspective.

As a result of a promise between two grandparents, our hero and heroine, who have known each other since childhood, are forced to marry each other. The heroine (Boeun) shows her spunk almost immediately and it is quicky established that the hero (Sangmin) is a very nice guy. The movie details the evolution of their feelings as they try to keep their marriage a secret. Boeun is openly unwilling to stand for this arrangement, particularly because she is infatuated with a classmate. She tries to date this boy while pretending that her marriage does not exist. This is much more difficult than it seems, as Kim's character becomes a teacher at the high school of his new bride! Love triangles abound as older female characters (and younger female characters) collide.

Of course, there are many cliched complications to their little schemes which add to the appeal of this film. Despite my initial reservations at the idea of a college graduate and teenage girl getting married and living together, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this movie. It excels not only with the comedic elements, but also shows us Boeun's growing maturity in a believable way. Tender moments are scattered in the movie without being overly sentimental.

Korean films strike me as being very boring and light mindless entertainment when they start out, gradually developing a plot as time goes on, and then ending with a striking surprise that gives meaning to all the pain and torture in the beginning. This is definitely true of this movie. Rules of Datings was one of the surprise blockbuster hits of the year and definitely gives us an idea of why some korean films are heralded as the media masterpeices. Rules of dating redefines the meaning of trauma. Trauma, for those of us who've experienced it, causes infinite unforgettable pain to the victim. It is regrettable but true that it also imparts on its victims a need for revenge.

The characters are undeniably well developed in this story and are jewels. I nearly gave up on the movie and if it were not for its widely accalimed reputation, I probably would've. Because I kept watching, however, I saw the real reason for its genius. I won't say what because that would ruin it for everyone, but I will warn that this movie requires persistence to move through the beginning, which is indispensable to the true plot. This is definitely not a comedy, and only suitable for those who have flexible minds willing to learn more about the human tragedy.

The movie itself is a total romance, not a romantic comedy. The atmosphere is rather serious, and only has hints of comedy here and there. The only comedic relief comes from Ha Ji Won's coworkers, who act in a "side" story. Basically, the story revolves around Ha Ji Won's character and a mysterious "Daddy Long Legs" that constantly helps her in times of great need. However, he does this secretly, preventing her from finding out who her hero is. From there, the story starts to go down the typical road of romantic films. However, towards the end of the movie, it gets a little complicated. It actually took me a while to understand what had happened.

Overall, I thought the movie was mediocre. I was expecting much more, yet I received nothing more than the usual romance. Nothing special at all. It was a film one would call "cute", yet nothing more.

The progression of the romance was especially disappointing-no climatic scenes that defined their relationship. In one word, their relationship was BLAND. One positive element was the acting. Ha Ji Won once again didn't fail to amaze me and Yun Jung Hoon further proved himself as an actor. Their chemistry was notable, however could have been accentuated by a better storyline.

I would recommend this movie to only those who are fans of the actors or are just desperate to watch a romantic movie.

Two Main Characters - Kwon Sang-Woo and Kim Ha-Neul

Kwong Sang-woo plays a rich, spoiled student name Kim Ji-hun who seems to never finish high school. He fits this role perfectly mainly because of his looks. In this movie, he has to act tough and hard to get along with. His sleek and cool appearance makes the story more believable.

Kim Ha-neul plays Choi Su-weon, a college student who works as a part time tutor to pay for her tuitions. Her role as a sassy tutor makes it convincing that she can survive Ji-hun's insults. I think she did a good job in exposing the feisty side of her character.

The storyline is similar to other romance movies. It always starts off with the couple hating each other. Then they begin to realize that the other person is not so bad. They overcome some obsticles and a happy ending results.

What I like most about the movie is how Su-weon stays by Ji-hun's side through everything. She could have left when he pushed her away but instead, she stayed to not only fulfill her tutoring expectations but be someone who he can trust.

Although the storyline is predictable, I enjoyed seeing Kwong Sang-woo and Kim Ha-neul acting together. Although Kwong Sang-woo and Kim Ha-neul are not around the main characters' age, they did a good job portraying their role.

Overall, this movie is a must see. There are some really cute and sweet scenes that you just can't miss...not to mention the funny names Kwong Sang-woo calls Kim Ha-neul in the movie.
